A Beginner's Guide to THC May 12, 2025
Your no-BS guide to Cannabis
We break down THC vs. CBD without the textbook energy, serve up a dosage guide that won’t send you to the moon (unless that’s the plan), and point you toward beverages and edibles that actually fit your vibe.
The Big Picture
THC-infused drinks and edibles are having a moment. If you’re new, it can feel like a lot. This is your quick-start: how much to take, what it feels like, what to do if you overdo it—and whether to sip it, eat it, or keep it classic.
What The High Feels Like
However you get there, the ride’s the same: lift off, peak, come back down. Timing shifts depending on how you take it—but the arc stays consistent.
The THC high varies from one person to the next. Factors such as dose, tolerance, metabolism, and strain can all dramatically alter the experience.
You may feel euphoria, relaxation, increased motivation, wakefulness, hunger, or creativity.
The THC high can feel very calming and relaxing, but if too much is consumed, it can also trigger anxiety and paranoia. To ensure a positive experience, avoid using too much THC and only use it in a place you feel comfortable. Many people use THC to help stimulate creative thought and relax the mind after a stressful day of work.
What are terpenes?
Ever wondered why your favorite cannabis strains smell so good and have different flavors and effects? It is because of organic compounds called terpenes! Terpenes are the essential oils of the cannabis plant and are cousins to cannabinoids (CBD and THC). Terpenes are not only responsible for aromatics and taste, but each terpene has its own unique therapeutic benefits. Some terpenes promote relaxation, while others may energize or help you focus.

Proper Dosage For A Beginner
Easy does it. Don’t dive in—sip.
Have a little food in your system (trust us, it helps). Start low—under 5mg is your lane. Give it time before going back in. It’s generally recommended to start out low & slow – with half a 5mg can of THC soda, or half of a 5mg gummy.
And don’t overlook the setting. Good people, good energy, no chaos. Set the tone, enjoy the ride. Check out our THC Dosage Guide for more information.
How to dose THC Beverages
If you’re new to cannabis, it’s recommended to start off with less than 5mg. Try drinking half and then wait 15 minutes to gauge effects. The watersoluble THC in beverages starts to kick in the moment you take a sip.
When you ingest cannabis as a watersoluble liquid, THC absorbs into your bloodstream through the tissue of your mouth, esophagus, and stomach. This results in a quicker onset, and a more consistent experience. Read more about THC Beverages.
How to dose THC Edibles
Typically, edibles are metabolized in the liver, which turns THC into a more potent compound called 11-hydroxy-THC. The process takes some time, so cannabis edibles are known to kick in 45 minutes to two hours after ingestion.

Micro vs. Macro Dosing
Microdosing Ideal for beginners, microdosing is all about taking a small amount of THC to feel subtle effects. Typically, this means about 1-5 mg of THC. A sweet spot for keeping things mellow, functional and focused.
Macrodosing For the more experienced cannathusist. We’re talking doses of 20 mg THC and up depending on your tolerance or needs. This is where you’re chasing deeper effects, whether it’s to tackle physical discomfort or hit a next-level high. This isn’t for the faint of heart, if you’re new, proceed with caution.

Dealing With Greening Out
Okay, so you carefully took notes from the above info but you still overdid it. Good news, it’s most likely going to be okay – especially if you’ve only ingested a small amount.
No matter how overwhelming it feels, trust that you will be okay, your body will process the active metabolites and the feeling will end. In the meantime, focus on your breath, grab a glass of water or CBD soda, and touch grass to restore your balance.
