Amanita Muscaria is raising some questions. By virtue of its psychoactive effects, Amanita Muscaria is often lumped into a broad category of magic mushrooms, however, Amanita Muscaria’s unique state of changing compounds, muscimol, and ibotenic acid, brings an entirely different experience. Muscimol is a potent and selective orthosteric, meaning it reacts with our brain’s GABA receptors. When ingested, it can provide feelings of euphoria and tranquility, an altered sense of hearing and taste, changes to sensory perception, and vivid dreams. Ibotenic acid is the neurotoxic secondary metabolite of Amanita muscaria, and the prodrug for muscimol during the drying of the mushroom, ibotenic acid is decarboxylated into muscimol. Muscimol is five to six times more potent than ibotenic acid. By completely removing all of the ibotenic acid and converting it into our muscimol extract we are able to offer a safe and effective experience.
